A few weeks ago we attended a spaghetti dinner at my youngest’s preschool and discovered the most adorable Pretzel Fishing Rods. The kids loved them — my husband bought a couple for our two youngest and my son immediately turned his into a sword. They’re simple, fun, and perfect for parties or classroom treats.

What do you need to make Pretzel Fishing Rods?

Gather these items before you begin:
- Large pretzel rods
- Pull ‘n’ Peel Twizzlers
- Swedish Fish and/or gummy worms
- Melting chocolate (for attaching Swedish Fish)
How do you make Pretzel Fishing Rods?
These take only a few minutes each. Follow these straightforward steps:
1. Take two strands of Pull ‘n’ Peel Twizzler and wrap them around the top of a pretzel rod to form the “fishing line.” Secure the ends beneath the wrap so they stay in place.
2. For gummy worms: thread the end of the Twizzler around the worm and tie a small knot to attach it securely. No chocolate is needed for this version.

3. For Swedish Fish: melt a small amount of melting chocolate according to the package. Dip about one inch of the Twizzler end into the melted chocolate, then press it onto the back of the Swedish Fish to secure.

4. Place the fish-attached rods in the freezer for about 15 minutes so the chocolate sets firmly.
5. For gifting, slide finished rods into clear pretzel treat bags and attach a Valentine card or tag.
One handy tip: loop a second Twizzler piece over the “fishing line” and tuck the ends under the loop to lock everything in place. Once you get the wrapping motion down, you can make about a dozen rods in ten minutes. The gummy worm version is the quickest since it doesn’t require chocolate.
