Rad Away Is Needed to Survive in the Wasteland

In the Fallout game series, Rad Away is essential for removing radiation damage. We made these for our son’s 14th Fallout birthday party and they were a big hit. With a few inexpensive supplies you can create realistic Rad Away packs to use as props or serve as novelty drinks.

These packs are a fun addition to any Fallout party and are easy enough to produce in bulk.

Why You’ll Love This DIY

  • Easy to make – Print labels, attach them to IV-style bags and fill the bags with soda.
  • Perfect for Fallout fans – Great for party décor, favors, or gifts for fans of the franchise.
  • Inexpensive – Each bag cost roughly $1.50 to make, much cheaper than many ready-made options.

What You Need to Make Rad Away

  • IV bags – Clear drink bags with a sealable spout work best; some kits include a syringe to make filling easier.
  • Rad Away labels – Print or design labels that match the look of the in-game item.
  • Label printer or regular printer – A shipping label printer can print 4×6 labels with a sticky backing; a regular printer plus adhesive or Mod Podge also works.
  • Coca‑Cola – Coke or a dark cola mimics the Rad Away color. We used Coke Zero for the non-alcoholic versions and mixed some with rum for adult drinks.

Helpful Tips

  • Make them in advance and refrigerate, but note that carbonated drinks may go flat over time.
  • If you print labels on regular paper, fill the bags first and then apply labels to avoid getting the paper wet and damaged.
  • The bags can be washed and reused, though cleaning them thoroughly takes effort.
  • To add a “bloody” effect, flick red paint lightly onto the label and let it dry before serving.
