This is our best tips and guide for using Genie+ at Animal Kingdom. Use this to help plan your Animal Kingdom day.

What is Genie+
Genie+ is the paid upgrade to Disney’s free Genie day-planning tool in the My Disney Experience app. It lets guests buy Lightning Lane access for eligible attractions, helping reduce time spent waiting in standby lines.
Rules for Genie+
- You can select one Lightning Lane reservation at a time. If you book more than two hours in advance, you must wait two hours after that selection to book another, or wait two hours after park opening when booking in the morning.
- You can only choose the next available Lightning Lane time; specific time customization is not offered.
Purchasing Genie+
Genie+ becomes available to buy through the My Disney Experience app at 7:00 AM Eastern for resort guests each day. Prices vary by date and park, and sometimes by whether you purchase park-specific access or a Park Hopper option. Expect daily prices to change; Park Hopper access is often the priciest option, with Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios typically among the more expensive single-park choices.

What Rides Are Not Included on Genie+ at Animal Kingdom?
Most attractions at Animal Kingdom are available through Genie+, but a few headline attractions are not included and require individual Lightning Lane purchases. At Animal Kingdom, the primary ride excluded from Genie+ is Avatar Flight of Passage. That attraction offers an Individual Lightning Lane at an extra cost.
Individual Lightning Lanes at Animal Kingdom
Individual Lightning Lanes must be purchased separately from Genie+ for rides not included in the standard add-on. At Animal Kingdom the key individual Lightning Lane to plan for is:
- Avatar Flight of Passage
Resort guests can purchase individual Lightning Lanes starting at 7:00 AM; non-resort guests can buy them when the park opens. If Flight of Passage is on your must-do list, buy its Lightning Lane as early as you are eligible.
Do I Really Need a Lightning Lane for Flight of Passage?
That depends on how long you’re willing to wait. Typical standby waits for Flight of Passage often range from 90 to 120 minutes and can climb higher during peak times. Much of the queue is shaded or indoors with air conditioning, which helps, but if minimizing wait time is a priority, the individual Lightning Lane is the most reliable option.
You do not need to buy Genie+ in order to purchase Individual Lightning Lanes.

Animal Kingdom Genie+ Priorities
Because you can only hold one Genie+ reservation at a time, prioritize the most popular attractions early in the day. Booking early reduces the chance those Lightning Lanes sell out and helps you stack more experiences during the day.
If you’re staying on-site, be ready by 6:45 AM so you can purchase individual Lightning Lanes at 7:00 AM and then secure your first Genie+ pick. If you’re buying Flight of Passage as an individual Lightning Lane, grab that first, then move to Genie+ selections.
Recommended priority attractions at Animal Kingdom (fastest to fill):
- Kilimanjaro Safaris — Early morning is the best time to see active animals; an early Lightning Lane improves viewing opportunities and avoids its earlier closing time.
- Na’vi River Journey — Popular in Pandora and family-friendly, it fills quickly as guests head to that land.
- Adventure Outpost Meet & Greet — Meeting Mickey and Minnie together is a high-demand experience and can have long waits.
- Expedition Everest — A favorite coaster with steady demand throughout the day.
- Dinosaur — A popular, intense family thrill that draws lines at busy times.
- Kali River Rapids — Especially popular on hot days; consider a Lightning Lane in summer months.

Genie+ Day at Animal Kingdom — Plan and Guide
Disney estimates most guests use 2–3 Lightning Lanes per day on average. With careful planning and early booking, you can often achieve more. Below is a sample schedule to maximize Lightning Lanes and attractions in a single day.
Sample day using Genie+ at Animal Kingdom
- Wake up before 6:45 AM so you’re ready to buy Genie+ and individual Lightning Lanes at eligibility time.
- At 7:00 AM purchase the individual Lightning Lane for Avatar Flight of Passage if desired, then immediately reserve your first Genie+ Lightning Lane for Kilimanjaro Safaris.
- Enter the park at opening (commonly 8:00 AM) and head directly to Kilimanjaro Safaris. If you have time, stop at Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery for snacks and coffee.
- After tapping into the safari, secure your next Genie+ selection while waiting or immediately after the ride.
- Next targets: Expedition Everest or Kali River Rapids depending on your party and weather. While in the area, pick up a Lightning Lane for the Adventure Outpost meet & greet.
- Plan shows like Finding Nemo and Festival of the Lion King around your ride reservations; arriving 10–15 minutes early for shows usually avoids the need for Lightning Lanes.
- Later in the day, aim for Na’vi River Journey and schedule it for early evening if possible. Consider dining at Satu’li Canteen in Pandora.
- If you didn’t ride Flight of Passage at rope drop, aim for a time at least an hour before park close to avoid the longest waits.

Is Genie+ at Animal Kingdom Worth It?
Animal Kingdom generally has fewer Genie+ must-haves compared with other parks. Because Flight of Passage is excluded from Genie+, many visitors find buying that individual Lightning Lane more valuable than purchasing Genie+ for the whole day. Depending on daily prices and your must-do list, buying one or two individual Lightning Lanes may be a more economical choice than Genie+.
During peak seasons, though, Genie+ can still save substantial time across several attractions. If you prefer not to use Genie+, consider rope-dropping popular rides in the morning or staying late to ride closer to park closing when lines shrink.
Does Genie+ Sell Out for Animal Kingdom?
Animal Kingdom is typically less likely to sell out of Genie+ than other parks, but sell-outs can occur on very busy days. Decide in advance whether you want Genie+ and have a plan for booking the key Lightning Lanes early if you choose to purchase it.
