Hot Spot #11: Meatless District Restaurant Guide — De Pijp, Amsterdam

Some Amsterdam food lovers may already know the Meatless District on Bilderdijkstraat. After the success of their first location, the two women behind this vegan hotspot opened a second restaurant in De Pijp. As a devoted foodie, I attended the opening lunch and returned soon after to try more dishes — and I wasn’t disappointed.

The moment you step inside you notice a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The interior features a vibrant mural that complements a cozy yet sophisticated vibe, making it a comfortable spot to linger.

The menu offers a variety of choices to suit different tastes. For starters we shared a hummus platter and the nachos. Both were excellent, and the nachos stood out: crisp chips topped with vegan cheese, creamy guacamole and a mix of textures and flavors that make for a comforting, satisfying snack.

We also tried artichoke with a garlicky dip — a great small plate to enjoy while waiting for the mains. For mains we had the risotto and the Caesar salad. The risotto was creamy with a bright hint of lemon zest, and the Caesar salad featured a flavorful dressing and shiitake “bacon” bits that added a pleasing umami note.

For dessert we chose the crème brûlée — a dessert I’ve been hesitant about in the past. This version proved me wrong: the texture and caramelized top were delightful and a fitting end to the meal.

The pricing sits around average for the area: not the cheapest option, but reasonably priced for the quality and atmosphere.

Address: van Woustraat 189-191 hs, De Pijp, Amsterdam
