This taco dip flag is a festive, delicious, and easy dish for summer parties. It’s served cold and can be prepared a day in advance to save time on party day!
I love dips, tacos, and anything festive — so this Taco Dip Flag quickly became a favorite. It’s adorable, crowd-pleasing, and perfect for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, or any summer gathering.
This dip is simple to assemble, can be made a day ahead, and stays cold — a real party lifesaver. Guests will be scraping the pan clean (no judgement if that’s mostly you!).
TACO DIP FLAG
Start by browning 1 lb ground beef in a large skillet until fully cooked, then drain excess fat. Stir in 3/4 cup water and one package of taco seasoning, simmer for 2 minutes, then transfer the meat to a bowl and refrigerate while you prepare the remaining layers.
In a large bowl, combine 16 oz sour cream, 8 oz softened cream cheese, and one package of taco seasoning. Mix until smooth. Now let’s assemble the dip.
In a 9×13 pan, spread a 16 oz can of refried beans in an even layer. Top with the cream cheese and sour cream mixture, spreading it smoothly. Add the cooled seasoned ground beef in an even layer, then sprinkle 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese over the top.

Evenly spread 2 cups of shredded lettuce over the cheese. To create the flag design, arrange alternating rows of diced tomato and shredded cheddar — use two diced tomatoes and about 1 cup shredded cheddar for the stripes. Leave the top-left corner clear and place a few sliced black olives there to resemble stars.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve cold with tortilla chips and enjoy! 🙂
