Peach and Oat Smoothie Recipe for Creamy Morning Energy

I’ve become as enthusiastic about smoothies as I am about cookies. Maybe that’s a sign of adulthood — a bit surprising, but mostly a good thing.

This smoothie easily qualifies as a meal on its own: fruit, yogurt and oats blended into a thick, filling drink. It’s simple, delicious and surprisingly satisfying.

The difference matters more in things where texture counts — like cookies or granola — but for smoothies rolled oats also give body and keep you full longer.

Breakfast smoothies are everywhere right now, and this one is perfect for using rolled oats. They add nutrition and make the drink more substantial — I drank about half and felt comfortably full for hours.

I used fresh peaches and a handful of cherries because a few were on hand, but peaches alone work fine. Vanilla powder and honey add flavor, and the oats are blitzed before adding so they blend smoothly and thicken the mixture. You don’t need to cook the oats — they’re simply ground and folded into the smoothie.

The smoothie thickens the longer it sits; it’s still drinkable, but a spoon works nicely to scoop up little peach pieces. Topping with flaked almonds and a few extra oats adds crunch, more fiber and a pleasing contrast of texture. The result is fruity, tangy from the yogurt, and luxuriously creamy. Give it a try!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 2 peaches ripe but firm, chilled
  • 1/4 cup halved and pitted cherries
  • 1/2 cup plain yoghurt chilled
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla powder optional
  • Flaked almonds for topping optional

Instructions

  • Grind the rolled oats in a blender or food processor until finely powdered. Transfer to a small bowl and set aside.
  • Pit and slice the peaches, then add them and the cherries to the blender. Pulse until smooth. If needed, add a spoonful of yogurt to help the fruit blend.
  • When the fruit is mostly smooth, add the remaining yogurt, honey and vanilla, and blend until completely combined.
  • Stir or briefly blend in the powdered oats. The smoothie will thicken as the oats hydrate. Taste and adjust honey or vanilla if necessary.
  • Pour into a tall glass, top with flaked almonds if using, chill for 15 minutes to thicken, then enjoy. Best consumed the same day.

Notes

If you have a powerful blender, use it for every step. I used a smaller grinder to powder the oats and puree the fruit, then my larger blender to combine everything.
