I’m looking for ways to reduce the cost of using stevia and other sweeteners at home. After using Splenda for many years, I decided to switch for several reasons:
- It seemed to increase my pain from fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis.
- It appeared to stimulate stronger cravings.
- It’s less naturally sourced compared with stevia and some other sweeteners.
For baking and cooking I now use Pyure Organic Stevia All-Purpose Sweetener. I also found instructions for fermenting powdered stevia into a liquid version to sweeten coffee and tea, and I decided to try it at home.
I began the fermenting process today with:
- 1 tablespoon Now Foods Organic Stevia (powder)
- 2 cups filtered water
The mixture needs about 48 hours to ferment, so I’ll see how it turns out and report back. My hope is to have an affordable, naturally derived liquid stevia for everyday use in beverages without relying on highly processed sweeteners.
